What does "wellness"mean? It is perhaps one of the most overused words in the world right now...`
And Is it the same as wellbeing, happiness or healthy living?
These are the questions we need to ask. This is what we need to be clear about to properly integrate wellness into hotels? How you weave this into the guest experience can be a richly layered answer.
The wellness industry has grown exponentially in the last 10 years. It grew out of the Spa industry but is so much more now than that as we see fitness, yoga, meditation, nutrition and sleep form part of the picture. True wellness should look at design too and the materials used, lighting, air quality and water in the hotel room and building.
With a passion for travel I have visited over 80 countries and practised yoga and experienced wellness/treatments and spas all over the world in many different resorts and hotels - both as a buisness and leisure traveller. I have also taught yoga and meditation at the medical wellness resort at Lanserhof in Austria, the luxury Destino Hotel in Ibiza and in Tulum, Mexico and in Abu Dhabi.
